Hosted Dr. Jialei Shen for a visiting lecture on air quality and healthy buildings

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Jialei Shen, Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, to the Georgia Tech School of Architecture, with support from Georgia Tech’s Provost’s Excellence in Graduate Studies Award.

During the visit, Dr. Shen shared research on air quality and healthy buildings with students, joined several classes, and met with faculty and students across the School of Architecture and related programs.

This exchange built on conversations that began at SimBuild 2024, where our work on urban microclimate modeling and Eddy3D created several new connections. During the visit, we also discussed ongoing work by Dr. İlker Karadağ and Patrick Kastner that integrates machine learning with CFD for urban environmental modeling.
