Information for prospective students
I appreciate your interest in working with me. I receive a fair number of inquiries from prospective students, so I’ve put together this page to provide more information.
- If you are an architect or urban designer, you will learn relevant data science and technical skills to effectively apply your domain expertise toward building modeling and decision-making tools.
- If you are a coder or come from a technical background such as CS, ECE, or ISyE, you will learn how your skills can help build tools that empower others to plan and design sustainable cities.
After working with us, our alumni typically go on to receive competitive offers at industry leaders such as Perkins&Will, Thornton Tomasetti, KPF, or continue their research at institutions such as ETH Zurich, Cambridge, Stanford, national laboratories, and others.
You can start working with us in a number of ways, depending on whether you are a Georgia Tech (GT) student or external to GT.
External to GT
If you are external to GT and would like to join to work with me, I encourage you to apply to the M.S. in Architecture, the Ph.D. in Architecture, or a Ph.D. program in ISyE.
Please note that admission decisions are made by committees—I personally cannot admit you to any of our programs. I also cannot assess how competitive your application will be before the deadline, as all applications are evaluated in comparison to the full applicant pool.
In addition to submitting an official GT application, you are welcome to share additional information via this form.
We also offer opportunities for exchange students to complete their graduate thesis with us. Please reach out to ask about availability.
Student at GT
If you are a current student at Georgia Tech and would like to join my group, I ask that you complete one semester in my Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) before joining my lab.
Please refer to the official VIP program information on how to join VIPs at Georgia Tech. There are options to join the class for 2–3 credit hours, depending on your level of seniority at GT.
Students typically stay for several semesters to take full advantage of the program. Funded TA/GRA assistantships are typically available after the first completed semester in the VIP, if strong performance is demonstrated.
